Audubon Society of Central Arkansas Minutes

June 14, 2018, 7:00 p.m.

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Cindy Franklin.  Twenty-three people were present.

 

The April Minutes by Barry Haas were approved following a motion by John Webb and second by Dottie Boyles.  There was no May meeting.

 

Treasurer Jim Dixon presented the April and May treasurer’s reports which showed combined income of $173.41 and combined expenses of $750.00.  The net deficit through May is $2,177.63.

 

Cindy announced field trips July 14 to Bois D’Arc WMA in Hempstead County and August 25 to Bald Knob NWR in White County.

 

Cindy also mentioned upcoming speakers/programs will be Allison Fowler of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission July 12 on the “Wildlife Action Plan” and Rob Beadel of the Ark. Forestry Commission August 9 on “Citizen Science”.

 

A program on “World of Pollinators” was presented by Jon Zawislak. with an introduction by Cindy.

 

Following the program Cindy announced a stakeholders meeting June 27 at AGFC re the unlimited commercial harvesting of aquatic turtles.  Jim led a discussion about reinvesting or cashing a $5,000 CD set to mature in late June.  Jim announced the ASCA website has an $18 annual renewal fee.  He also said for $20/year the website could undergo security checks/scans.  That expense was approved after a motion by John and second by Jane Gulley.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Cindy Franklin.  Sixteen people were present.

 

The March Minutes were approved after a motion by Dottie Boyles and second by DeLynn Hearn.

 

Cindy went over the March treasurer’s report which showed income of $113.52, and expenses of $3,003.62.  The net deficit through March is $2,890.10.

 

Cindy announced upcoming field trips and meetings as follows: (1) Craighead Forest Park and Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center April 21, (2) Ark. Audubon Society Spring Convention April 27-29 and (3) Gillam Park and Audubon Center on May 12 for World Migratory Bird Day and the BirdLR Birdathon.

 

Dan presented the program on “Ornithology Through Philately” which was well received with a number of questions.

 

Following the program and a short break at 8:10 Cindy brought up an upcoming hearing at the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission re the commercial harvesting of aquatic turtles.  Dan announced a candidate forum at Audubon Arkansas April 25.  Cindy offered a reminder of the native plant sale at Audubon Arkansas April 21.  And Barry Haas gave brief updates on Central Arkansas Water, which is in the process of acquiring ~468 acres of land north of Lake Maumelle in the watershed, and the Water Providers Legislative Task Force.
