Meeting April 12, 2018 – Ornithology Through Philately

Dan Scheiman, Bird Conservation Director, Audubon Arkansas

In another installment of Dr. Scheiman’s occasional, educational, ornithological, seminar series he will talk about what postage stamps featuring birds can teach us about ornithology. The over 30,000 stamps that illustrate over 3,500 species also display their breeding habits and habitats, threats and conservation, and the ornithologists who studied them. There’s more to be gained from collecting stamps than face value.

Dr. Dan Scheiman is VP of ASCA. His day job is Bird Conservation Director for Audubon Arkansas, a state office of the National Audubon Society.  He and his staff monitor birds and other wildlife, restore wildlife habitat, and help Arkansans improve their local environments. Dan has a B.S. from Cornell University, M.S. from Eastern Illinois University, and Ph.D. from Purdue University. He has been birding for over 25 years. Bird stamp collecting is another long-time hobby.

Meeting will be at 7 P.M. at the Fletcher Library on H Street in Little Rock.
